Women’s Equality Day 2022

Women’s Equality Day 2022: Reproductive Rights Were Stolen – Mobilize NOW To Get Them Back!

In recognition of Women’s Equality Day, please join us for presentations on the current state of reproductive freedom in Washington and discuss ways we can protect and extend it.  Featured speakers will be US Congresswoman Suzan DelBene, State Senator Manka Dhingra and Sami Alloy, Deputy Director of Pro-Choice Washington.

Do you have ideas or questions you would like to share?  There will be opportunities to discuss them with others as we strategize on the future of reproductive freedom, equity, and personal privacy.

Sponsored by Washington State NOW, Zonta Club of South Puget Sound and the Salish Sea Chapter of the Federation of Democratic Women.

About Women’s Equality Day

Women’s Equality Day (August 26th) marks the 1920 adoption of the 19th Amendment to the US Constitution prohibiting states from denying the right to vote on the basis of sex.  Commemoration of the date began in 1972 as “Women’s Rights Day,” amended in 1973 to “Women’s Equality Day.”

Though the amendment represented a significant step for the rights of women, suffrage was not granted immediately nor applied universally.  Due to harassment, voting restrictions and other barriers, many women of color were not able to vote until late in the twentieth century, and the struggle continues today for equality for all.
